Research Centre of D\u0130SK (D\u0130SK-AR)<\/h4>\n

D\u0130SK (Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey) Research Centre (D\u0130SK-AR) was established in 1978 in order to publish scientific studies and publications on the problems of the working class and labour in Turkey. D\u0130SK-AR is currently an autonomous research centre operating at D\u0130SK Headquarter.\u00a0D\u0130SK-AR continues its studies with the contribution and support of its own researchers, as well as social scientists from universities, independent researchers and experts from member unions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

HISTORY OF D\u0130SK-AR<\/h3>\n

From the establishment of D\u0130SK (1967) to the 5th General Assembly in 1975, it was observed that research studies were limited.\u00a0During this period, D\u0130SK prepared a study on the Common Market, as well as the minimum wage.\u00a0However, these studies were mostly prepared with the contributions of Maden-\u0130\u015f union experts.<\/p>\n

D\u0130SK has taken steps towards institutionalizing research studies since the early 1970s.\u00a0Accordingly, in March 1972, it was decided to establish an economic consultancy unit at D\u0130SK and to offer this task to coordinate with the research departments of member organizations to Attila Karaosmano\u011flu, former Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs.\u00a0However, Karaosmano\u011flu did not accept this offer.\u00a0Then, Mete Tun\u00e7ay started to work as a researcher at D\u0130SK on June 1, 1972.\u00a0Tun\u00e7ay worked as a researcher for a year and left in May 1973.<\/p>\n

Founding of D\u0130SK-AR<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In 1976, Professor Sadun Aren started to work as a consultant at D\u0130SK to carry out research studies. However, during this period, D\u0130SK research studies could not be institutionalized. The founding of the D\u0130SK Research Institute came to the fore after the 6th General Assembly of D\u0130SK held in 1977. Aren thought it would be beneficial to establish such an institute in Ankara. The foundation studies of the Institute, which started in June 1978, have gained an institutional character since the beginning of 1979.\u00a0 \u00a0The first expert staff of D\u0130SK-AR included Hikmet Se\u00e7im, Bar\u0131\u015f T\u00fct\u00fcn, G\u00fclay T\u00fcrky\u0131lmaz (Toks\u00f6z) and G\u00fcl Sarp, as well as Sadun Aren.<\/p>\n

During the period between the founding of the D\u0130SK Research Institute and the coup of September 12, 1980, it has worked on various issues, prepared reports and published.<\/p>\n

The 1978 Economic Report published in 1979 mainly focused on the positions of the working class and other labouring groups in the income distribution.\u00a0The report also gave a wide coverage to the “Social Agreement” that the Ecevit Government signed with T\u00fcrk-\u0130\u015f.\u00a0In the\u00a0report\u00a0entitled\u00a01979 Economic Report\u00a0published in June 1980, the\u00a0effects of economic developments, especially income distribution, on the working class were examined.<\/p>\n

The Institute has given seminars on various subjects and prepared brochure texts on some subjects.\u00a0Another work of the Research Institute is the creation of a library where “all publications and studies that may be needed for the working-class movement” are compiled.\u00a0In the library, which started to be formed with 600 books brought from DISK headquarters in the establishment, 2,500 publications were collected in a short time.\u00a0Supported by archives and news clippings, the library has become an important information centre.\u00a0However, these publications were refuted in the barracks and court warehouses due to the effort to search for evidence for the crimes they alleged everywhere with the September 12 coup.\u00a0All the savings of the D\u0130SK Research Institute were destroyed by the September 12th<\/sup> coup.\u00a0The founder and first director of D\u0130SK-AR, Professor Sadun Aren, was tried in the case of D\u0130SK and spent a long time in prison.<\/p>\n

The New Period of D\u0130SK-AR<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

D\u0130SK Research Institute was re-established in May 1992 with the short name D\u0130SK-AR. The new period, which started under the direction of the economist Mustafa S\u00f6nmez, continued in its new headquarters in Taksim, Istanbul since August 1992.\u00a0In the 1990s, as a specialist in D\u0130SK-AR staff, G\u00fcvent\u00fcrk G\u00f6rg\u00fcl\u00fc, C\u00fcneyt Altun\u00e7, Ahmet Demirel, Ay\u015fe Nur Erten, Nesrin Sungur Ertel, Ahmet \u00c7akmak and \u0130brahim An\u0131l took charge.<\/p>\n

The first publishing of the D\u0130SK-AR was the\u00a0D\u0130SK-AR Bulletin<\/em>, which\u00a0received great interest.\u00a0The newsletter, reports on various topics and monthly livelihood indexes also received great attention and appreciation in the media.<\/p>\n

D\u0130SK-AR studies in the 2000s was coordinated and edited by Assoc. Prof. F. Serkan \u00d6ngel and Professor Aziz \u00c7elik. D\u0130SK-AR studies were carried out with the efforts and contributions of many scientists and researchers during this period. D\u0130SK-AR, which continues to work with the contributions of the scientific world, established a D\u0130SK-AR advisory council during this period. During this period, D\u0130SK-AR\u00a0journal<\/em> was published in five issues with a comprehensive content, as well as research reports.<\/p>\n

During this period, regular monthly unemployment and employment reports started to be published.\u00a0The alternative unemployment calculations of D\u0130SK-AR have started to be announced regularly.\u00a0It published various reports on the problems of the working class and the labour movement, as well as regular reports such as unionization and collective bargaining reports, as well as annual minimum wage surveys.<\/p>\n

In 2017 a survey was conducted and the survey results was published as a book by name Appearance of the Working Class in Turkey<\/em>.\u00a0The reports prepared between 2016-2019 were\u00a0published as a book called\u00a0Labour Studies (2016-2019).\u00a0D\u0130SK-AR also\u00a0started preparing the\u00a0D\u0130SK History\u00a0book on the\u00a050th anniversary of the establishment of\u00a0D\u0130SK.\u00a0The\u00a0first volume of\u00a0D\u0130SK History<\/em> was published in February 2020 and second volume in 2022.<\/p>\n

D\u0130SK-AR continues its studies under the name of D\u0130SK Research Center (D\u0130SK-AR) at D\u0130SK headquarters.<\/p>\n
